It has been raining nonstop here in Metro Manila since Sunday. Tropical Storm Maring seems to be on a roll, though today it finally showed signs of backing down (my indication is that Gil Puyat Ave across our condo is now passable). Our area is prone to flooding so I’ve been stuck at home when I could have been at work last Monday and yesterday. I should be feeling bad about the whole weather situation, but truth is, I’m glad I had four whole days off to work on my personal backlog. Usually on weekends, I feel bad whenever I still spend my only two rest days in front of the computer, but this time I didn’t feel guilty at all and boy, did I accomplish a lot!
There’s also the added motivation that I now have the laptop I’ve been dreaming of having for a year now. It wasn’t an impulse buy, I swear! My 3-year old and already-defective Macbook Pro died last month and I honestly was considering just getting a cheaper Windows laptop, but I’m glad I changed my mind. Once you go Mac, you really can’t go back. :p
I have yet again changed the domain of my blog, this is the fourth time to be exact. (Me? Indecisive?) I decided to do this on a whim yesterday so this is obviously one of my little whims, thus the name of this blog (Get it? Get it? :P) But the better reason is that I got this name from our business, Lil’whims Merchandising. I have been trying to build this brand name for over a year now to slowly veer people away from its more popular identity, so I’m thinking if people mistake the name as “Little Whims” when they search for our store, I might as well build a site that could serve as catch basin. Plus, I do a lot of things in my life on a whim so I think this domain name for my personal blog is so me!
I thoroughly love this new WordPress theme (and it’s mobile responsive too), so I think, I think, this would finally be my permanent real estate on the web. :)
Also on a whim two days ago, I decided to finally migrate our online store from polaroidph.com to lilwhims.com when I accidentally came across a free WP eCommerce compatible theme. There aren’t a lot of free WP eCommerce themes out there, so when I found this one I didn’t think twice about giving it a go. The theme is customizable and just plain perfect! After I’ve published it on the site (and since, like I said, I’m just stuck at home) I thought why not go all the way by moving everything to the new domain? Thankfully, electricity didn’t go out in our area despite the rain and flood, and we still had Internet access.
When I do a site update like this one though, I always make sure every page redirects properly from the old to the new so no visits are missed. Even the feed URLs redirect accurately, thanks to Feedburner.
Aside from the site migration, I also went as far as updating our Facebook Page cover photo and creating an online promo which is inspired by the promo we’re currently running at work. The objectives are to promote the new website and to encourage buyers to order online since they can’t come to the store due to bad weather.
Yay for productivity! Thank you, Tropical Storm Maring, cos even though your torrential rainstorms wreaked havoc in Luzon, the silver lining is I had loads of time to do this long-overdue site updates. Now you may leave.
